Lecture Thomas Doxiadis at SGD Autumn Conference London UK
Lecture at the Royal Geographical Society, London, United Kingdom organized by the Society of Garden Designers with the theme - The Source2: inspiration, creativity and the big idea
Extract from the Society of Garden Designers - How do some of the most respected designers harness their good ideas? Where do they source them? Does it work better being in beautiful rural countryside, or in the middle of a bustling urban place?
We search for inspiration to solve difficult problems, to design neat solutions, to be different from others, to create satisfaction and pleasure for our clients and ourselves with our ideas transformed into reality, and to respond to a new challenge with all our senses heightened and tickled. New ways of looking and thinking about things are essential to help us think outside the box, to be inventive, and to think big Noah-like ideas.
Chaired by multi-award winning designer Cleve West MSGD, a line-up of internationally renowned speakers will share their individual approaches to creativity; the conference will offer a rare insight into how they nurture and cultivate imagination, and how they recognise a potentially successful idea and convert it into reality. Confirmed speakers include Matt Keightley MSGD and Cameron Wilson from Rosebank Landscaping, landscape architect Jenny Coe, Haruko Seki from Studio Lasso, Luciano Giubbilei, and Greek architect and landscape architect Thomas Doxiadis.
We will discover new ways of looking, seeing and thinking, as well as new ways of disciplining our approach to creative design and recognising qualities and skills in ourselves which perhaps we have not yet fully harnessed.
