“Sous les pavés, la plage!” We are concerned about urban space, the space between buildings. It is the locus of our public life, of our quality of life, of the quality of our civic society and our civic culture. Up to 60% of urban space today is taken up by cars, some moving but most parked. Up to 60!! This is painful to us, especially in the tightly packed Mediterranean city. It is a mater of size, but even more importantly it is the structure and connectivity of public space which underlies public life. And that is a set of problems which design can solve. Since 2007 we have engaged in studying the current condition, and imagining possible futures, now closer than ever through the revolution in personal transporters and autonomous vehicles.
