Austrian Empress Elisabeth created the Villa of Achilleon as her summer home. After her death it was purchased by the Kaiser, and since WWI most of the gardens have been abandoned. In collaboration with renowned landscape architect Louis Benech the study of the gardens’ restoration has been conducted and approved by the Ministry of Culture.
As a historic garden which has been changed through time, strategic attention has been placed on which elements to restore to their original state, which to leave in the existing condition, and what additional elements to provide for the garden’s continuing wellbeing.
